What kind of society have we become if we can't say what we mean anymore? While he was talking about undo Apple Hype, that line struck me as too true for our entire culture.

What kind of society have we become if we can't say what we mean anymore?

Would people go to a church where. . .
Would people go to a church where there is one attraction - God? Why lower our standards to make the unsaved, unsaved churchgoers?Quoted from a friends status. I think this sums up the problem with hyper-marketed churches. They spend huge amounts of money on being as cool and trendy as possible to attract young twenty-somethings, often at the sake of Biblical teaching.
What are you thoughts?

What would you have done?
At the book store yesterday I picked up a book on the Columbine shootings, I knew a little bit about them before (and the book really didn't add to what I knew) but it got me thinking. . . For three hours in bed last night (not that that's too unusual for me). Here's one of the questions that was in my mind: What would I have done if I was in that library when the shooting started?
Think on that.
It's an interesting thought isn't it? Would I have cowered behind a table paralyzed with fear? Would I have lunged at the two shooters in an attempt to stop them? Would I have bolted through the door? Would I have been one of the heroic boys who stayed and held the doors open for others to get out only to be gunned down your self? What a time to Do Hard Things.
I guess I can never know unless I find my self in such a situation.
"Life isn't one one big laugh, people."
I came across this interesting quote tonight from life as viewed from behind mirrored sunglasses. Pretty well sums up a good part of my feelings regarding the frivolity of my generation.
. . . my strange introspective conspiracy-theory rants and brooding seriousness, which is most of the time who i really am. I do like to have fun of course, but i value good fellowship and deep thinking [as] a far better way to spend time in life rather than goofing off constantly. Life isn't one big laugh, people. Make an effort to make your conversations go deeper, it'll serve you well.

You cannot make men good by law: and without good men you cannot have a good society.
I'm re-reading Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis for another post I'm working on and came across this interesting quote that applies largely to the Healthcare debate in our Nation right now.
I do not mean for a moment that we ought not to think, and think hard, about improvements in our social and economic system. What I do mean is that all that thinking will be mere moonshine unless we realize that nothing but the courage and unselfishness of individuals is ever going to make any system work properly. It is easy enough to remove the particular kinds of graft or bullying that go on under the present system: but as long as men are twisters or bullies they will find some new way of carrying on the old game under the new system. You cannot make men good by law: and without good men you cannot have a good society.

Desk Space: Stephen Peterson
- Who are you anyway?
- Pictures Please
- What's it's history?
- What is your main occupation at your desk?
- Describe the objects that we may (or may not) see in the pictures of your desk
- What do you really like (or dislike) about your desk and or it's location
I am the founder of Crowned One Productions (which no longer exists) and the co-founder of Passing Through Productions.
This desk was originally used for our old family computer, but when its hard drive failed, the family computer was moved upstairs, and I took my computers downstairs to this desk.
I use my desk for the various computer things that I do (video editing, networking, computer repair, etc.).
I have three monitors on my main desk, and a monitor off to the side (and yes, I use them all). That accounts for three different computers running at the same time.
I like having space at my desk (though it's not always quiet, as I have siblings that like to come downstairs :P). However, it's not the ideal spot to broadcast our wireless network, but this is the spot that I have all our networking equipment (when I have a network server hooked up, it's down here too).

More on Project Excalibur
Project Excalibur would be a social network for Nerds. Let me explain what I mean. A nerd is defined by Websters as someone who is socially dull. On the web, a nerd has been defined as someone who is obsessed with something real. This site is for such people. People who are "socially dull" (you just aren't really into frivolous talk, you'd rather do something more useful), and you are "obsessed" with something real. If this sounds Rebelutionary to you, then you’re right; it is.
This would be a site that rejects the low expectations that our culture places on teens and how they use technology and the internet. Particularly this site would address how teens use social networks. Project Excalibur should change the way you view social interaction on the net. It wouldn't be for meaningless chatter, but rather for interactions with a purpose. Whether that takes the form of casual talk (that results in the mutual edification) or the organizing of a project.
If this sounds like something you've been looking for or you'd like to help with the huge amount of refinement that needs to go in to this please contact me: Jackson@freedom836.com.
